4Sabic exports 500,000 tonnes of MTBE to Iran |

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (July 16, 2002) - "SABIC has signed an MoU with PCCI of Iran to export 500,000 tonnes of MTBE over the next five years", said Fahad Bin Naser Bin Salamah, SABIC?s VP, Oxygenates. |

Bin Salamah highlighted that the agreement is part of the Iranian government?s anti-pollution initiative to expand the use of unleaded fuel. Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) is a gasoline additive that replaces lead to raise the gasoline octane number and reduces harmful gas emissions from vehicles and engines.
With a production capacity of more than three million tonnes produced by three plants in the Jubail Industrial city: Ibn Zahr, Saudi Arabia is the second major producer of MTBE after the USA.
