4Sabic exports 500,000 tonnes of MTBE to Iran
  Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (July 16, 2002) - "SABIC has signed an MoU with PCCI of Iran to export 500,000 tonnes of MTBE over the next five years", said Fahad Bin Naser Bin Salamah, SABIC?s VP, Oxygenates.
  Bin Salamah highlighted that the agreement is part of the Iranian government?s anti-pollution initiative to expand the use of unleaded fuel. Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) is a gasoline additive that replaces lead to raise the gasoline octane number and reduces harmful gas emissions from vehicles and engines.

With a production capacity of more than three million tonnes produced by three plants in the Jubail Industrial city: Ibn Zahr, Saudi Arabia is the second major producer of MTBE after the USA.
